The world's prosperity is dependent upon its ability to create power reasonably and reliably. As the worldwide demand for power increases, the ability to make power inexpensively becomes more challenging. Pacific Fuel Cell's PFCE logo technology can provide a low-cost clean energy solution.

Recently, the price of oil has climbed as high as $78 US dollars per barrel and in the last few years, the price of gasoline in the United States has doubled. If the price of oil, which is a limited resource, continues to rise, the economies of the world will be at risk. Each day in America, coal-burning power plants create 50% of the electricity required for homes, offices, and cities. The by-products of burning coal are greenhouse gases, (e.g., CO²). Those greenhouse gases are contributing to global warming.

The world needs to continue exploring alternative ways to create power. It is necessary for the world's future prosperity. Currently, power plants burning fossil fuels (e.g., coal, gas, and oil), supply 71% of the US daily electricity requirements. Let us examine the other ways the US gets its daily electrical requirements.

Nuclear (fission) power supplies 20% of the US daily electricity requirements. It only requires small amounts of fuel and does not contribute to global warming. However, accidental reactor meltdowns are possible and countries can make weapons of mass destruction from the fission waste products.

Hydroelectric power supplies 7% of the US daily electric demand. It has minimal environmental impact and an inexhaustible fuel supply. However, it is only practical in very large-scale models using fast flowing water.

Wind, Solar, and Geothermal power supply 2% of the US daily electric demand. All have minimal environmental impact. However, wind and solar require certain weather conditions to operate effectively and geothermal is limited by poor technology.

Can fuel cells provide alternative ways to create power? Fuel cells are revolutionary electrochemical devices that produce electricity with extremely high efficiency and minimal pollution. Fuel cells can be advantageously used to provide power to innumerable types of equipment such as cell phones, notebook computers, digital cameras, PDA's, power tools and portable power generators.

By participating in PFCE logo Pacific Fuel Cell, you can "go with the flow" into a clean alternative energy future.
